Water Transmission Development Project

Working under critical infrastructure

We were approached by Downtown Construction at tender stage and together were able to offer a technically reinforced solution to the Consultant Mott MacDonald for the upcoming Water Transmission Development project.

Non-Disruptive Road Crossings (NDRC) were critical as the 1850mm OD section of works crossed the Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway, the only major highway to the King Fahd Causeway connecting Bahrain to mainland Saudi Arabia.

In total the our section of the project required three crossings of 1850mm OD and two crossings of 1450mm
OD of welded carbon steel sleeve pipes for installing 1200mm and 800mm ductile iron product pipes.

We completed the NDRC works using an ISEKI Unclemole* from our existing fleet and were able to engineer the jacking systems to incorporate the longer pipe sizes and jacking pits required.

Our production rates for tunnelling eclipsed that of our competitors working on other parts of the contract, further proving the advanced ability of the ISEKI Unclemole range in the soft to medium strength but aggressive ground conditions encountered in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

*The microtunnelling machine was supplied, serviced and shipped by Specialist Plant Associates, part of the Joseph Gallagher Group of companies.
